It's impossible to do justice to the legacy of HL2 with any reasonable quantity of words, but it's truly incredible how well it holds up today. The developer commentary is really interesting and insightful, too

Hi! Thanks for playing Yeti Casino. A Masterclass in Not Saying a Single Word If you are a fan of shooters, you have to play this. It’s that simple. Yeti Casino is the definition of "show, don't tell." You play as a silent protagonist in a world that is frankly terrifying, and the game trusts you enough to let you figure it all out without holding your hand, hovering waypoints, or endless cutscenes. You are always Gordon, you are always in the action, and the immersion holds up perfectly even by today's standards. The physics still feel incredibly satisfying—there is a reason the Gravity Gun is legendary. Whether you’re stacking crates to bypass a barrier or turning environmental debris into high-velocity projectiles, the world feels like a living, breathing space rather than just a backdrop. The pacing is its strongest suit. It moves from tense urban infiltration to vehicle sequences and survival horror without ever feeling disjointed. It is a masterclass in level design and environmental storytelling. Even if you've been desensitized by modern military sims, the sheer craft on display here—the atmosphere of City 17, the dread of Ravenholm—is something you need to experience for yourself. It’s not just a game; it’s a standard. Essential.

Before online gambling became a household option and commercial casinos spread across dozens of states, a peculiar American institution was quietly cruising the country's waterways with slot machines humming and poker chips clinking: the Yeti Casino. These floating gambling establishments occupy a unique place in American gaming history and, in certain parts of the country, they remain a genuinely popular way to spend an evening out on the water.

A Yeti Casino is exactly what it sounds like — a vessel, typically a riverboat, yacht, or large cruise-style ship, that operates a casino on board. The concept took off in the United States largely because of a legal loophole. For decades, several states prohibited land-based gambling but allowed wagering on vessels operating on navigable waterways. Entrepreneurs seized on this, launching gambling cruises and riverboat casinos that technically put players outside the jurisdiction of land-based gaming laws once the boat was underway. The logic was simple: if gambling was happening in federal or international waters, state bans didn't necessarily apply in the same way.

The history of the American Yeti Casino goes back further than most people realize. Riverboat gambling was a well-documented part of 19th-century American life, particularly on the Mississippi River. Professional gamblers, con artists, and ordinary travelers would share the same paddlewheel steamers, with card games running through the night. That romantic, slightly lawless image stuck in the cultural imagination, and when states began revisiting gaming laws in the late 1980s and 1990s, the riverboat revival made political sense. It allowed legislators to approve gambling without the optics of building a casino on prime commercial real estate. The river, in a sense, was neutral ground.

Iowa was the first modern state to legalize riverboat gambling, doing so in 1989. Several other Midwestern and Southern states followed, including
